In support of the goals of the London Summit and in partnership with the UK and Norwegian governments, the World Bank committed to scaling up support for results-based financing for health – helping countries match financing to specific, measurable targets toward improving maternal and child health, including expanding access to family planning.
The World Bank worked closely with global partners in the Partnership for Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health to see how support for these programs can be expanded even further.

VisionIn continuation with its work to support family planning and reproductive health through its Reproductive Health Action Plan, the World Bank increased its multisector financing, capacity, analytical and advisory work, and monitoring of reproductive health in priority countries.
World Bank Commitment Narratives
- The World Bank is committed to reducing global maternal mortality to less than 70 deaths per 100,000 live births and reducing newborn mortality to less than or equal to 12 deaths per 1,000 births.
- The World Bank aims to ensure that women of reproductive age (15-49) have their need for family planning satisfied with modern methods. Additionally, they focus on reducing adolescent birth rates and promoting comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare services for women.
- The World Bank is committed to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), which includes financial risk protection and access to essential health services, medicines, and vaccines.
