The government of Solomon Islands committed to making family planning a priority under the reproductive health program section of the government's National Health Strategic Plans for 2016-2020 as part of improving service quality and coverage and strengthening partnerships.

In the future, the country hopes to develop a rights-based Family Planning Communication Strategy and expand its Adolescent and Youth Friendly Services in the country.

Solomon Islands Commitment Objectives

  • Strengthen coordination between stakeholders in the family planning program.
  • Revitalize the national family planning program through strategy development and implementation.
  • Allocate more resources to support the family planning program.
  • Address the shortage of human resources for implementing family planning programs.
  • Secure additional funding and human resources to expand the “Men-As-Partners” project to other provinces.
  • Engage youth representatives and marginalized groups in the family planning program.
  • Integrate family planning into universal health coverage schemes.
  • Conduct a data consensus workshop and review domestic expenditure data to inform future actions.
  • Enhance the resilience and emergency preparedness of the family planning system.
  • Improve the quality of care and rights-based approach in family planning programs.
  • Ensure a broad range of contraceptive methods, comprehensive information, and counseling.
  • Provide opportunities for client feedback and improve accessibility and availability of services.
  • Participate in the consultation process to shape the vision for family planning post-2020.
